Mini Wheelers (Balance Bikes)
Mini Wheelers are our youngest riders on balance bikes.
Mini Wheelers are aged from 2 years old (on the day) until 7 years old as of 31 December in the year that they turn 7.
Mini Wheelers ride on the inside half of the track (3rd and 4th straight). Mini Wheelers are a non-competitive participation race class, there is no timing or scoring, and the focus is on fun and participation in the sport.
Once a Mini Wheeler starts to pedal, they are classed as a Sprocket Rocket.
Balance Bike Guidelines
-
AusCycling recommends the usage of a steel/alloy frame balance bike, rather than a wooden balance bike
-
Mini Wheeler's bikes must not have pedals or cranks
-
Bells, footpegs, baskets etc must be removed from the bike for the safety of your child and other riders
Mini Wheeler Clothing and Safety
While on the BMX track, Mini Wheelers must wear.
-
Long loose fitting pants, not leggings
-
Long sleeved shirt
-
Covered shoes and socks, not sandals or crocs
-
Helmets (stack hats) are permitted that meet Australian standards, full face helmets are recommended
-
Must wear full-fingered gloves*
Jingili BMX Club has FIST full-fingered gloves for sale for $30. Alternatively, new members start with gardening gloves during their 4-week trial and purchase gloves when their child moves to a full membership.

When Do Mini Wheelers Ride?
Our BMX racing season depends on the easing of the wet weather; we aim to run from March to September (approximately Term 2 and 3).
Mini Wheelers ride on Monday afternoons during school terms, from 4:30-5:00 pm.
Mini Wheelers are also encouraged to come along to our race nights. For Mini Wheelers, these sessions are very similar to our Monday afternoon sessions, as there is no timing or scoring of their races; they race for fun and participation. Mini Wheelers who attend five of our scheduled Friday night club races will receive a medallion at our end-of-year awards party.
Please check our online calendar or Facebook page for upcoming session days and times.

How Do I Join?
We recommend that you wait until our return to Sunday gate practice has been announced on Facebook.
If your son or daughter hasn't held an AusCycling membership in the last 2 years, and has never held a trial membership, you might like to start with the "4 week free trial". The four week period starts from the day that you fill out the form, so make sure you are able to make it to the track as we are unable to issue a new trial membership.
Riders using the 4 week trial membership are asked to sign into the session at the canteen and pay the session fee of $5.
Riders using a trial membership are able to access Sunday morning gate practice, Friday night club racing and some bronze events.
At the conclusion of your trial you will receive an email from AusCycling to sign up for full membership.
